We once again join Cinder and Thorne as they venture into the town of Rieux in search of a power cell for the Rampion. After a meeting with an unobservant shop clerk and a creepy, burly man, they leave the shop just to find themselves face to face with the police. But the officer isn't looking for a Linh... Cinder.

As Cinder and Thorne try to evade arrest at the Rieux Tavern, another burly stranger attacks and Cinder uses her Lunar mind control in self-defense for the first time. Before she can process this experience, the city is under attack with Lunar Soldiers just like Ran and Wolf, and Cinder and Thorne must rush to the Rampion to escape.
