71. Cress Chapters 15 & 16 (The Lunar Chronicles)

Cress and Thorne try to adapt to their surroundings. After a quick inspection of the satellite, they gather what supplies they can and head out into the desert. Although the situation and her surroundings terrify her, Cress is happy to be on Earth, especially with Captain Carswell Thorne. 

As they venture towards the mountains in the distance, we learn a little about Cress's backstory. After several hours of walking and resting, walking, and resting, Cress sees an oasis! But, just like many before her, she has fallen victim to a common mirage. When all hope seems lost and Cress starts to admit defeat, Captain Carswell Thorne is there with a comforting shoulder and a promise of survival.
