As Cress and Thorne continue their trek through the desert wilderness, the chances of survival become more and more fleeting.  Cress, overcome with helplessness, is suddenly surprised by a new creature and the sound of a gunshot.

Cress and Thorne have met some unlikely fellow travelers, and it seems their luck is starting to change. Their new allies are willing to help them travel to the next town safely, but before they can fully relax, Cress passes out from heat sickness and we are once again left wondering about their safety and survival.
