As the rampion crew celebrates an early victory, Sybil and her entourage make a dramatic entrance that threatens to ruin their chances of survival. Cinder takes control of what she can, but it doesn't look good for our heroes. This turn of events prompts Thorne to uphold his promise to Cress.

As Cinder tries desperately to save her friends, a thought occurs to her both brilliant in its strategy and terrifying in its execution. As Cinder works her gift on Sybil, it looks like the rampion crew will finally be able to escape, safe but not unharmed.
